Counting sheep

I can't sleep. Despite an exhausting Sunday, I can't will myself to sleep.

Perhaps it's having a third person in the room - his brother, that I'm not used to. That's one downside about a studio - lack of privacy when a guest is over and the proximity and lack of personal space. It's the new breathing, bed tossing and off and on snoring that I'm not used to -_-

My left wrist had been sprained for about 6 weeks and it still hurts. It got sprained when I was sleeping, on it, as usual. How do I cure it? I can't exactly lift heavy items and it's getting to me.

Meanwhile, a random thought whilst trying to sleep - I need some oil burner or candle for the bathroom! I forgot about that spot!

It's almost Christmas

I still can't sleep and I'm now thinking about 25th December.

I want to play Christmas carols all day long and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I love Christmas and it's my favorite time of the year. It'll be a treating spending Christmas with friends this year in Hong Kong :)

Needed a perk up

I didn't sleep well at all -_- The ear plugs helped slightly but I'm such a light sleeper, it's mostly bad for me.

I pulled out an outfit that is totally froufrou, fussy with a big black bow in the front and my favorite poofy skirt. Then I bold clashed the ultra feminine look with boyish beige oxfords.

I hope I don't nod off at my desk later on..

Cats

As requested by Ickle, here are two pictures of the 2 cats that are currently in The Studio :p The third cat will be fixed onto the wall when we've finalized the location of the couch.

If you are wondering why a cat theme decal and key hooks - B.T loves cats that's why.

Ghirardelli

Random pic, unrelated to this post, but taken at the famous 'Chicago' sign down town

After 4 sunny days in Chicago, the weather took a 360 degrees turn and it became chilly. It was the wind chill more than anything else that left us shivering as we walked down the streets.

Borders offers free WIFI in most cities or at least in the States and it's very useful for people like us who do not have a data roaming plan. We needed to check out the address of a dinner place and decided to pop into Borders to leverage on the WIFI. Right besides Borders is a Ghirardelli Cafe and we decided to make a slight de-tour and grab a cuppa hot chocolate first.

Ghirardelli is from California or rather, the headquarters is based there so it can be found all over Cali. It's a common souvenir to bring back from friends and it's not as cheap as a Cadbury but affordable for it's quality. I do enjoy their range of chocolates and here and there, I'll pick up a bar or pack of squares. We were tempted to bring back some chocolate but decided not to and just settled for a cup of hot chocolate. The chocolate wasn't the best that I've tasted - the best is still the one at Bittersweet. Regardless, it warmed us up considerably and it was a nice late evening treat.

Hot Doug's

Gimme a hot dog!

When I asked for food recommendations for Chicago, Hot Doug's came up several times. It was one of the 'must-haves'. It was a bit of a drive away but our kind friend L graciously offered to drive us over.

Hot Doug's has been voted as the best hot dog's place worldwide. It's a bold claim but many people rave about it, celebrities included. The menu offering is wide ranging from all kinds of sausages and unique ones like foi gras, lamb gyros and Dijon rabbit and so on. Specials are featured every now and then and it's quite mind-boggling looking at the menu options and trying to make a decision on which to buy.

Hot Doug's has been featured all over from the Chicago Tribune, ABC, Travel Channel, NY Times and even Anthony Bourdain's - No Reservations. Fame aside, I have to admit that the hot dogs do live up to its reputation and it was one of the best that I've tried.

We tried the famous foie gras which was my favorite though terribly rich and sinful and I think I had an apple sauce sausage dog or something. Like all famous eating places, be prepared to queue - we were lucky and it took us just 15 minutes to order and be served. It is one of my best recommended for anyone heading up to Chicago and damn, I'm actually craving for one right now! Oh. And get one of the tees - he got one and it's pretty cool.

The Met

Healthier version of eggs benedict

One of my favorite hotel to stay in not only in SEA but actually, possibly in the world, is The Metropolitan. There is something really zen-like about the hotel. You don't feel that it's a business hotel and constantly buzzing with activity. There's an immediate sense of calmness the moment you step into the entrance and everything about it is fantastic. Also, it's owned by Singaporean Christina Ong so yay to supporting our local businesses.

The rooms are supposedly one of the biggest within Bangkok. I love how spacious each room is yet it is not overwhelmingly large and I feel comfortable and cozy. The furnishings is all simple wood with clean lines and minimal fuss. Service is impeccable and the best part is the Glow breakfast which is mostly organic and healthy food, which I happily filled up my tummy with daily. Quite a good detox (of sorts) I must say :)

Candles

The most fun part of doing up a place is adding little personal touches around the house like the decals, flowers, candles, fluffly pillows, a throw, a rug etc. B.T has given me full rein to decorate the house and make it prettier though I am still trying to convince him to let me hang up the a framed picture of the original waffle iron that Bill Bowerman's wife used to make the first running waffle sole. -_-

B.T and I are into fragance oils (which we either burn or drop into our air purifier) and our favorite scents are jasmine, citrus and anything spa-like smelling. We also love burning fragrance candles but as I am very sensitive to perfumes and scents, it's a selected range - mostly citrus and natural scents like the sea, chocolate, vanilla etc.

I have a list of places to buy nice candles from and decided to list it here to share and also, to see if anyone has more to add on!
